i've just figured out how to do commander mode on my d70 and sb-600 wooooo

anyways, i was wondering if there is any delay between me firing the shutter and the flash (sb-600) going? i mean like, surely there is a slight delay for the onboard flash to signal the sb-600?

i was experiemtning but only recognised a very slight delay but i couldnt tell very well..

also, does the onboard flash signal flash every inturpt with expsoure or shadows or nuddin?

thnx again for solving my life problems Very Happy

There is a delay, you can get used to it pretty quick but it's always there and can be a bit frustrating if timing is very important. Quite noticable compared to a cable linked flash.

Adam - the delay shouldn't be a problem. For action pics you'll be using rear synch flash. It'll fire at the end of the exposure. You can do the following test if you need proof:

Put your camera flash into commander mode with rear synch selected. You can use whatever shutter speed you want but remember to use AutoFP if you're above the camera maximum.

Turn on your SB-600, making sure that the remote sensor is on and facing the camera.

Now take a photo of the flash then look at the LCD. You'll see the flash has fired in the photo. If there was a delay problem then you wouldn't see the flash. You can even set the shutter speed as high as you want and repeat. Again you'll see the flash in the photo. I can see the flash working at 1/8000 with my D200 so there can't be much of a delay.

Unless your remote flash is outwith the range of the sensor then it should work fine.
