Is that a surly?
Didn't know the could take long travel forks?

Thanks all.
The effect is done using a photoshop action I made from a comic art tutorial I found on a website. It only works on my laptop as it saves and then reloads images as displacement maps in one of the many filters and layers it uses.
I love the effect though.
Here's another one:
And here's THE LINK to the tutorial (quite complicated).

It's a Surly instigator. It's not the guy riding's bike - it's a mate who bought it cheap for messing around on. It's a total patchwork job. He got the forks for a tenner and doesn't care about anything like a warranty or whether they're too big.

Hamish can i just say for the record: YOU ROCK!!
(removing my tongue from Hamish's A-line now..)
Seriuosly i do love these pics!!! well done to you.
I got to ask you.. Could you please tell me how you do it?
I would like to make my girlfriend something nice like that for xmas.
(I'll create it myself then take it and get it printed on canvass)
She never see's much of me now due to riding, maybe a nice pic of me will do her.
We really do like the "Pop art" stuff.. we went to see the Roy Lichtenstein show in London.
I bought myself a copy of "The car" and "WHAAM!" my 2 favourites.
A pic of me in a similar style in between them would rock hehehe.

Thanks, jetsetdan
First of all you need to have a good, sharp, vibrant photo to start with.
It's plain and simple but if it's not good to start with then the effect doesn't work as well. You then use the tutorial found here:
http://www.macmerc.com/sections.p...warticle&artid=209&page=1
I've made an action to do it, but it only works on my pc. As you'll see it saves an image as a displacement map and then reloads it so you can make your own action but you'll need to keep a folder (or just use the desktop) for that purpose. There is an action that you can download from the site but it's not as good as the tutorial.
The use of sound effects and text really makes it though. The links to those are in the tutorial as well. Also, I sometimes use adjustment layers (such as HSB above the colour layer and levels above the tone layer) if I want to tweak things further.
And seeing as you're being nice, here's another:
You'll see when you have a look at the (complicated) tutorial.

Hamish, many thanks for that.
I am going to have to download photoshop now and give it a go.
I love the other pics... awsome.
I recon you should do a MTB comic strip or something...
with these kinda pics it could make for something very special.
(maybe start by posting here on the forum and see where it goes from there)
