The camera that started it all for me was a Minolta XG-1. I also used a 10D before upgrading to a 20D a couple years ago. I used to have a Canon EF 35 f/2.0 but I sold it a couple years ago. I kind of miss it now. I'd like to get a 5D so I could get back to a full-frame camera. Right now the only way I can get full-frame is with film. Here's what's in my bag.

Definitely go for the 18-70, it's an incredible lens for the money. So sharp and fast in comparison to the 18-55 lenses that are out there, slight distortion at 18mm but it's nothing worth crying over. | ||

Medium format SLR
Just stuck a roll of HP5 through to test it, seems to work fine, but I didn't, and managed to double expose (Scanned in on a flatbed so quality would be better on a proper scanner)
Same picture but at 100%, bit grainy as it's 400ISO

Started off with a Sony Cybershot (don't knock it till you've tried!), a good little camera which never let me down, until the lens got stuck ONCE but it was just tired.
Bought a Canon EOS 350D with the standard (stupidly soft!) kit lens and a 70-300mm ,
Played with a Nikon D70 + 50mm f/1.4 and 10.5 fisheye, Fell in love Made the change and now : D200. hurrah! |

I use a Nikon D50 with 18-200 VR lens (awesome lens) and a 50mm f/1.8. I also use 2 SB600 flashes and a SU800 wireless commander.
I've had various other lenses over the last couple of years but there's no need lugging them around. I found I didin't use the other so sold them. Almost all my riding is big distance proper xc so I can't be carrying round f/2.8 70-200s! I use a Sony P200 when I can't be bothered carrying the SLR. For a compact, it's fantastic. |
