Would one of these, for £309 be a good deal, along with a 18-55 DX
(the standard set up)

I was advised against it because you don't get autofocus with seperate lenses. They are nice cams though...

so D50 then, i have used a friends Dd70 which is the "Older brother" of the D50...i think

and took a few half decent shots with it, but really i need to get used to it.

I will look into it!

I had a play with the d40x the other day and it definitely didn't feel as nice to hold as the d50, though it may have been slightly lighter. I think the LCD screen at the back was bigger too.

If you can avoid it, I would. D50 is a much better camera by far.
