next major step from a Fuji s5600?

hey all, I am currently shooting with a Fuji s5600, and it was great when I started out, but as I have progressed I hav found that I want to use an add on flash etc.

So I need the next major step up from the Fuji5600 really, so what should I buy? and how much will it cost?

Cheers
Alex

Well to me it looks like you wan't to start moving on up to the world of DSLRs. The two companies you wan't to be looking at are Canon and Nikon. There's many arguments as too which ones better but at the end of the day you can't really go wrong with either and it just depends on what you find more intuitive to use.

The Nikon range starts with the D50 (is out of production but cheap second hand) and the D70.

The Canon range starts with the 350D (may be out of production but still obtainable), the 400D (upgrade brought in to replace the 350D) and the D40X which is the latest and has better features and more megapixles but has a funny lense system that can bite you in the arse later on. Alot of Canon users will advise picking up a second hand Canon 10D or 20D over a new lower range one but that depends on whether you're comfortable buying second hand.

You're looking at spending around £300-£500 on something like this (including a kit lense which is generally a wide angle zoom (18-55mm for eg) but you may actually be better off just getting a body only and buying a 50mm fast prime lense for around £80 as these are much better quality lenses.

I hope thats helped a bit, just do some research, look on ebay but make sure youre only looking at sellers with good feedback and go into a local camera shop to try them out because in the end the whole Canon vs Nikon thing is all down to what you prefer.

If you don't want to spend that kind of money, then tbh its not worth upgrading from what you have because it's not a bad camera.

ok Thankyou very much!

If I don't make it to buying one of those I may just upgrade to the highest compact that Fuji do or something, because at the moment I can't even have an external add on flash! Sad

Can I post ebay links in here so that people can give advice on the item? E.G. tell me if it is any good for me?

and also so all of these cameras take SD cards? Sad I just bought XD's Razz

If you're getting serious about your photography then you'd be better to just go for a DSLR now. You'll end up buying one soon enough so why waste money on a compact when you've already got a decent camera.

As for what's good for you... well it really depends on what you are shooting, what particular features are most important and how much you want to spend. A good place to look for these are the camera reviews at www.dpreview.com - they list all the specs as well as giving very good in depth reviews of most cameras you'd be likely to look at.

With Sandisk 2gb cards having dropped to silly prices such as £14 (from around £100 Shocked) memory really isn't a worry at all any more . If your spending around £350 on a camera £20 for a few gb of memory cant be too much of an issue can it. Wink
