Kranked 6

Has anyone else got this? (i'm you have...) It came in the post today and I was pretty impressed....

Discuss!
dandantheadminman

i got it for xmas

however i was very disappointed in it

the cinematgoraphy wasnt very good, the soundtrack sucked, half of the riding sucked, and the editing sucked too

all in all, bjorn was rellying on this new film concept and big budget rider line up to bring in the money

the only postive is the trails were nice and original, but that was the riders cred, not the film makers
jedi

half the riding sucked??????????? you're blind and/or mental!
Dob_mike

I got it end of November.

It's pretty good. Soundtrack on its own sucks, but it flows with the movie.

Some of the riding was weak, like porters handplant and pretty much all the Voires section... but most of it was stellar.

I loved Boyko, Leech, Rennie/Peaty, Kinrade, and Romo.
jedi

peat/rennie was the only shite section imo
dandantheadminman

when i say half the riding sucked, i mean in relation to the fact its a big budget film that supposed stands side by side to film makers like nwd and the collective films
jedi

its way better than nwd7.boyko's line itself is the best line on film this year

I've not seen the film but I've seen the bit from Innerleithen, which is a local trail:

http://www.radical-films.com/zune/Kranked6-01.mov

and having ridden it all (as an XC rider) I'm surprised to see it in Kranked. The first part is freeride-lite and the bit where you see them riding the drops is actually the last it of the XC trail. This is the biggst of them:

I'm not surprised that it doesn't look that impressive. There are much bigger jumps and more difficult parts on the DH trails. I guess they just went for the stuff that looked more scenic.

I'm also thinking they could have been more creative:

e.g. this photo (also from the XC trail):

was of this:

and you can actually see me taking this photo during the video (I'm in the middle of the run up wearing a blueish top)

jedi

eh?
jedi

oh you mean in the extras!not part of the main film
Hamish

As I stated earlier:

I've not seen the film

I didn't realise that was in the extras Smile

I think it deserves credit for the fact that it was for once different. NWD is amazing but is just stunt, stunt, stunt - all out action and the collective is a legend that has been ripped off too many times now.

Eric Porters trail was amazing as was Boykos (hopefully i'll be visiting Porter's this summer!) I respect the film for originality's sake. And it stokes you to build too...
dandantheadminman

you can never have too much collective, though i dont think the way collective presented itself should be classified as a style of film, its just been made the way films should be,.... properly, so 'collective rip offs' as people call them are imo, in fact not collective tryhards, but instead just a movie that doesnt work.

just my 0.02p
duncan_g

I havent seen it but was wanting to, but you guys veiws have made me swither. Si is it worth it?
I did get ROAM for christmas though, and that is filming. Best MTB film i have ever seen! The riding is so good aswell.
jedi

kranked6,ckd,nsx9 best dvds of 2006
dandantheadminman

that'll be ya north shore roots making ya love those three, for me it has to be ROAM, NWD 7, and dirt 4: death or glory (i forget it thats the actual name)
jedi

no,ckd is amazing
kranked6 is off the hook
nsx9 cos it eeps it real

roam is cool but bears line makes the film and that line is in ckd too

Granted i don't ride mountainbike (BMX and Trials) but compared to the other disorders (i've seen all of them) i didn't particularly like 7. For me there was no ground breaking riding and as i don't mountainbike i guess i was looking at it from a more filming and editing point of view. It just didnt have the same great vibe the others had, but i'm not totally sure why. I still remember the amazing start of number 2..the great song and just as it hits a crescendo bender just throwing himself off that massive drop and sliding along the floor smiling at the camera all the way- inspiring stuff.
dandantheadminman

yeh, but tbh, i think thats because NO-ONE has come close to pushing the limits like bender has, bender is still getting back into it since broken back, and hopefully he returns his full awesome self.

nwd always showcases the latest in the progressive side of moutnainbiking, so if you dont see a huge progression, blame the riders.

though tbh, people started doin 720 whips, and barspin to tailwhips and that for nwd7, not that compares to benders antics though...
jedi

i think the rampage pushed the boundaies of freeride more than just bender
dandantheadminman

yeh i agree, i think the death of rampage was the blackest day in mtbing, but i was talking bout pros, cause obviously you could then argue that the kamakazi race pushed the boundaries
jedi

nope, riding fast down a fireroad didnt.
dandantheadminman

really? o rite, well i read an article awhile back that talked bout it, but i guess that'd only one guys opinion after all, you'd know it better than i would lol
jedi

they used to race up it too!

Yer i think it all didn't seem that progressive to me because i've seen all the streety stuff x 5 in BMX really.

But like i said it wasn't just the riding but the whole feel off the movie was just a bit 'off' the others. How much i love those zipwire northshore shots though!

Firstly, i think kranked was awesome, i'm with you Jedi, i thought the cinematography was pretty good and the whole movie was just so original, and the trails were some of the best in the world. Secondly i think NWD7 was super cool, i can understand why you didn't feel the vibe, but hving watched it several times it still blows my mind.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts in a sentence or two...
