How would i blow-my pics toposter size and get them printed?

just wondering...

How would i blow-my pics toposter size and get them printed?

because at some stage ill want some big prints for my wall, i just have no idea how to go about it?

p.s. I shooting a nikon D70s which is 6mp if that affects anything...

You'd just order a poster sized print. I use photobox.co.uk for my prints and have found them to be pretty good quality.

My brother and his wife have this one of mine in their house, taken with a D50, enlarged to 30" x 20" then framed and it looks pretty good IMO:

oo thnx for the link

though just outa curiosity, how big you reks i could realistically push a 6mp pic and i know fuck all abotu resolutions so what i do about that?

It is influenced by the quality of the original photo, but if it's a really sharp photo then there's pretty much no limit. If it's a bigger photo then you look at it from further away.

Go up close to any billboard and it'll look horrible, but it looks fine when it's viewed from the distance intended.

ok thnx

Do not go high street, you can easily pay over £100 for an A1 print!

As a rough guide, I would say no bigger than A2 for a sharp 6 megapixel picture, it would be sharp up close but good enough for a wall. There is no set size though.

oo rite, kk

ill probs order quite a few over time so ill have a duff ones i pressume

I've ordered a total of 8 poster sized prints (30" x 20")from Photobox and all have them have come out brilliantly. I shoot with a D70 too so no problems there.

However...

I would recommend that you only do this if you are converting to maximum quality JPG from the original NEF RAW file (Photobox only accepts JPG files, no TIFFs sadly) otherwise you will notice a lack of sharpness and more noise than you would have otherwise seen.

If you're really pedantic about it (like me) then you can use a Photoshop Plugin called Genuine Fractals to upsize photos. When I first got GF, I resized a 6Mp JPEG from my D70 up to 96Mp with no noticable loss in quality and all edges well formed, sharp and smooth. I was amazed and still am!

Sample image of Genuine Fractals:

Of course, when in print the minor imperfections are practically invisible, and when you use a high quality file to start off with such as a photo from a DSLR then the results are unbelievable.

:O:O:O:O

where can i get this genuine fractals?!!!! its looks awesome!""""!!!!!

I used an evaluation edition (30 day trial.) If you want to purchase the <1Mb plugin then it will cost you £170 for the PrintPro version, or for a standard version you can pay as little as £89 but this does little more than upsizing in Photoshop.

The above example with the MSN buddy I did myself as an example to show you guys. It's an impressive piece of software!
jetsetdan

download it off bit torrent Wink
dandantheadminman

i might have a look for it on torrents then

http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=genuine+fractals

found a torrent that looks promising

will say if it works...
dandantheadminman

ok, it seems to have worked, i've installed it (a cracked one), and stuck the plugin file, in hpotoshop lugins folder

then, i openign a an 8bit JPEG (which should work), and went file/automate/GF PrintPro, and then the lilhoruglass thing popped up, adn then nothing happened???!?!?!?!!?!

anyone know what went wrong?
jetsetdan

Is it installed properly and activated?
also grab an online tut on how to use it...
There will be a nice simple one with pics that will walk you through it.
There are tons of CS tuts out there. I'll see if i can fine one for ya Wink
jetsetdan

oh dude...
what version you running?

Quote:

crack doesn't work for Photoshop CS2
dandantheadminman

i running version 4.0

and i tried using the help file which has a tut and stuff, which i tried, but it only works up until after a click file/automate/GF PrintPro, when it does nothing...
jetsetdan

I'll get back to you with someinfo soon.
