I like the look of that place too, the riding seems great, though it doesn't look quite as epic as the alps etc

Not planning on going anywhere as I don't have any money to. If I really need to get away from home I might go to dartmoor for a few days. Hopefully I'll get some nice jobs away from home...

you've already been blessed with some of those this year! That's your summer 'holiday'!

not much time to relax during those, saying that, the road ride on the last day in france has gone down as one of my best times on a bike ever.
I have a chance to go to france next week for very little money, I've never done the chairlift thing so I'm tempted, just need a dh bike first...

I take it you're talking Alps? If so "try it, you won't regret it"!!

yeah les gets, but I'd have to leave tues/weds and may stay out till the mega and shoot that. I don't think it's going to happen though, I don't really have any money and I'd need to buy a dh bike before going out...not gonna happen.

Shooting the mega would be awesome. You could always hire/borrow a bike or if you've got an all mountain that would suffice. But if you don't, make sure you do at somepoint in the near future!

You don't need a DH bike for the Alps. I happily took my 06 Enduro with Lyriks last year, although I wouldn't have minded a bit more suspension for the horrendous braking bumps on account of the weather. But a decent AM rig is easily enough.

I'd think I would destroy one though, if I was on downhill tracks having to chase my downhiller friends, a bike like an enduro just wouldnt last. SX trail is what I'd love, or 223, or bighit etc....

Agreed. Trying to keep the speed with less travel is not easy. Am also going to ze Alps. Video cam is out of action so it will be just photo's and riding this year

Did anyone get up to much this year? I made up for not going to the alps last year (or at all before that) by going for nearly two weeks in July and doing the megavalanche, that was an incredible experience. I then followed it up by going out to whistler for nearly 2 weeks, and I'd probably say that trip overshadowed the mega. I was out there during crankworx so that meant it was twice as crazy, riding with world cup downhillers during the day on 5 minute downhill tracks stuffed full of jumps, hips and berms, partying until well into the morning, up early and shooting pictures, riding with guys like wade simmons, another night and another party, repeat for about a week. The morning I had to leave I just seemed to be in a daze, I'm surprised I came back with everything!
Needless to say, coming back home after 3 weeks of riding with friends on some of the best trails on the planet with some of the best riders is so hard, I have 0 urge to get out and ride my local hill!

Sounds fantastic. To say I'm jealous would be an understatement.
I've not had the chance to get away on any biking holidays this year. Off to New York for a week in October and might try and get a day or two's riding upstate.

They were both amazing trips, it feels like the past 3 months have actually been 3 years, done so much riding in so many different places.
I went to new york in June as well, that was no bikes but the city is a cool place, just so different to what I'm used to. Definitely make time to have a walk at night on broadway!

Argh, you're making me jealous! I've had my longest ever summer holiday, but haven't been on any riding hols - couldn't afford the alps due to the exchange rate! Still would love to do the mega some day, though. I know what you mean about zero inspiration - it sucks so badly when the local riding is worse and you have to push up every time!
If you get a chance, be sure to post up some of your pics from abroad people!
