Gig Payment?Ok so i have a question/dillema which i kinda need your help with. Particularly people who have done gig photography or general event photography, i know Mike had some gig stuff on his portfolio?
I've started doing Gig photography recently, for local bands mainly but bands that sell albums and get a fair few gigs, also bands like area 54 which again have sold quite ALOT of albums and have gigs lined up all over the country. Well so far i haven't been charging as i started by just knowing people in the bands and wanted to build my portfolio so did it for free. But then i started taking photos of the bands they were covering etc so started doing bands i didn't know, just for the price of free entry. So how do i go about starting charging? Area 54 have said they'll put me on the guest list for any of their tour dates i like, but all the others are alot further afield than i've done before so travel costs etc come into it. Then theres things like batteries etc. So should i just ask for payment for the next gig? Also if they did agree to payment how would it roll? Would they just pay me for being there and take whatever photos they wanted to use where ever they wanted or would they buy specific photos etc? Also how much should i ask for being there per hour?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated as i have no idea how this all works really. Cheers, Max.

i have no idea, but if you know any other gig shooters, like seeing them at other gigs, ask them
