Danny & Duncan in the rainHere are a couple more shots (the better one being in POTM) from a 10-15 minute demo that Danny Macaskill and Duncan Shaw did at Innerleithen last Saturday. The heavens opened just a few minutes before they started and I was caught out without any protection for myself or the camera.
I managed a few shots in horrendous conditions using D200, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 & SB600 before the LCD stopped working. Camera has since dried out and seems to be working fine though. So much for British summer, eh?
C&C appreciated, as always (escpecially with regards to contrast/exposure as I'm using a new laptop and am not too confident about the brightness/contrast setting at the moment):
Duncan sidehopping
Danny backflipping

You've done well considering the conditions! Perhaps a shallower depth of field might have looked good in the first shot as the rider is a tad lost in the crowd, not badly though.
Is it just me or is that a tiny ramp he's flipping from in the second shot?!

The kicker is about 1-2ft.
Mental.

Great shot timing. know what JAW means about the first.
That must have required fast rotation!

Sadly it's not really possible to get less DOF in the first shot as it's a wide/normal angle. It's actually f2.8 which is as wide as that lens goes.
I don't have a lens that takes shots at 24mm with a wider aperture. And I can't afford a Nikon 24mm f1.4 at the moment, even if I could track one down.
