Yeah, I wasn't taking pictures for them, I was actually on work experience with Steve behr, MBUK's main photographer, I had worked with him before so we sorted it out, and that shoot at Cwmcarn was one of the days. I just took my camera along because I knew I wouldn't be doing much else.

so are you a phtootgrapher for a living?
Roo
Not yet, but it would be nice some day
At college doing a national diploma in photography, although 90% of it is film stuff!

Roo

Here's another you won't have seen, took an absolute age and it never went in MBUK anyway...

shame, thats a wicked shot
I guess they thought that the feature had taken up enough pages anyways
duncan_g
Yeah, thats a sweet shot!

and another:
dandantheadminman
kool shot.
what lense is that? looks liek around 10 or 12mm?
duncan_g
Woaw, that really is cool.
Roo
It's the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye.

wicked

Roo you are a legend
duncan_g
LOL! An admirer already! Your pics truely are awsome though.

Roo

Here's a different approach, the D200 that I use can give me 5fps which is what I used here, but took out two of the frames as they cluttered it up far too much. It's already quite cluttered thanks to the leaves and shadows, but it's the first time I've tried continous shooting from that angle, certainly tricky to put together in photoshop...

duncan_g

Woaw, that must have been SSOO hard. Those leafs are good on the rider.
John
it's waaaay too cluttered
dandantheadminman
i wouldn't say 'waaaay' too overcluttered, but a bit maybe
duncan_g
I think it looks awsome with the different patterns etc.
Roo
Here's another, I had to make each individual pic small, about 1000x1000 pixels before I could put it together so that paintshop and my computer could cope.
duncan_g
Sweet, that must have taken a while! Alot of pics, the rideris quite cluttered in the air though and the twigs are bad.
Roo
If it was printed a decent size, it wouldn't appear so cluttered but at that size I agree, the twigs are actually trees and I couldn't get an angle without them:(
dandantheadminman
I think that looks real cool, but whats with teh uber blurred tree on left?
mikedeere
That, my friend, is what is known in techincal terms as "rather fucking hot." They really should have used that!

Roo

| Trail_Builder wrote: | | I think that looks real cool, but whats with teh uber blurred tree on left? |
It's closer than all the others, therefore is bigger in the picture and more blurry as it's further from the plane of focus.

Cheers, I wish they had used it but they used just one frame from it, and used a sequence I took from the top instead.

I really like that, only continous shot of a 360 ive ever seen

dandantheadminman

ive seen a few, they look sweet
1 example i saw was of bearclaw doin opposite 360 drop to reg 360 over a gap in one sequence, the one he did for nwd 5, such a sweet shot

Props for putting that together. VERY hard and time consuming to do and you've certainly done it well.
But...I've alyways thought multishots from angles like that just aren't really worth the time to put them together. They always seem slightly pointless as you can generally see whats going on from jus the middle photo and also look very cluttered IMO.
To me multishots are for showing a long line or a massive gap etc. Each to their own though and like i said you've certainly shopped it well.
dandantheadminman

yeh but imo, even though 1 pic can shgow it all, the sequence adds interest that hte single wouldnt, therefore making the pic better

Except it's not a 360, it's a table barrel roll

I actually totally agree, that was the first and last one I've done from that angle and it was just a test of the FPS although the harsh shadows, thin trees and small leaves add to the clutter in that one. I doubt I'll be doing one again unless I get asked too!

I wouldn't put it that way, sounds like they pay me tons to come along and take pictures But yes, they do use some of my pictures and I get some bike parts in return

lol, I bet you wish it was that way (about paying you tons to take pictures)...
Still, i suppose they're kinda doing you a favour - promoting your works where other possible clients might see it & pick you up.
