Its not very versitile and i get very annoyed with it sometimes

80% of the time im shooting dirt jumping, and its just not that practicle!

Any advise would be good

I reckon an 18-200mm lens would be good. That way you've got your standard kit lens and a telephoto in one.

I was thinking of getting a 50mm f1.8 lens funnily enough.

i cant fault them at all!

There perfect when you get them perfect, and can produce the most pin sharp shots!
There amazing for portrait..and can be amazing for bikes, but when it comes to dirt jumping i find im allways having to stand far too far away!

Yeah I still want one. You can get em fairly cheap, I believe?

I would NOT get an 18-200 if I were you.

I owned the Nikon one and sold it because I hardly used it. The variable aperture was rubbish for action (max of 5.6 at 200m) and it was prone to softness and plenty distortion. It's okay for travelling light on holiday and taking snapshots but that's about it.

I'd recommend either a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 or Sigma 18-50 f2.8 HSM. Plenty of speed for action shots and shooting in low light and also a decent range. Great for landscapy type stuff too. I've got the Tamron which I rate very highly indeed - it's my most used lens by far.

The one prob with the 50 f1.8 is the slow screw focus. It's rubbish at tracking head on subjects. Nikon have just released a 50 f1.4 AF-S which should sort that out and looks an awesome lens. I'm going to start saving for one.

In fact... ignore all that stuff I just wrote about the 50 f1.4. If you want to buy a very good condition 50 f1.8 then I'll sell you mine.
JAW

lol, yeah I would like the f1.4 but it's probably a little beyond my budget. How much for the f1.8?

JAW - PM'd ya
