|

JAW is on holiday so he has asked me, in his absence, to suggest a theme for September... we've had B&W and Freeride as topics so far...
September's topic shall be Downhill
Feel free to interpret that in anyway you wish. However, I'd suggest that a visit to Fort William around about the start of September may be a good idea.

Er... POTM 10 - August is Freeride according to the forum.

Grrr, what are BMXers supposed to do on the forum these days Surely on a ramp you'r going down hill?
Oh and what exactly is freeride? I always thought it was just riding whatever you wanted but that doesn't seem to be how you want it interpreted in the comp.
And we should do a weather theme at some point. _________________ www.watfordriders.co.uk |

Hmm.. seems to be some mixed opinions here...

Errm go to your local hill on a BMX... might produce some iteresting results. Or just go down a hill. i dunno, be inventive.

It can be shore, someone doing a gap or simply a winding trail. That's the beauty of it.

Yes that could produce some interesting results.
BTW Closing date for Freeride is today, so get your entries in! _________________

Or maybe the BMXers could go out and buy a mountain bike. After all this is a mountain bike photography forum. Surely if we have a BMX month then it's only fair that we also do one for roadies, tandems, tricycles, etc. Just think... roadies go down a ramp at the start of most time trials, not to mention the descents on the mountain stages. Oh and track cyclists also do a fair bit of descending down some of those steep velodrome walls. _________________ Hamish |

I never said anything about having a BMX month :S And the reason i'm on this forum is because it seems like a friendly community for photographers. Besices, I shoot alot of mountain bikers and am friends with them alot. I mainly shoot the mountain bike disciplines more closely intertwined with BMX though.
Obvoiusly the odd theme such as this isn't bad but having 'Freeride' then 'Downhill' just doesn't seem very imaginative to me. You'll probably notice the Freeride one didn't get many entries, possibly because it's narrowed the audience of it?
WHo says the themes have to be disciplines Hamish In another thread i wrote this on the subject:
'Personally i think the themes are a good idea but should be based upon ideas that everyone can use rather than just disciplines of riding.
Things like Weather, Nature, Architecture, Sillhouttes, Natural Light etc etc.'
Having said that, i'm going to try and get to some trails at some point to get something for this, but it may not be the best theme to accompany this god awfull weather at the minute . _________________ www.watfordriders.co.uk |

The BMXers comment was taking the piss, rad2themax but I'm pretty sure you knew that.
There will be loads of themes over time. I guess it'll vary a lot. I thought that it would be a good idea to have people shoot outside their comfort zones from time to time. I normally shoot XC stuff and would enjoy the challenge of trying to catch something different like DH or street or whatever I'm not used to.
Certainly more open themes are a good idea as well (like B&W which we had previously). JAW will be choosing them so try and influence him as much as you can. I think a mixture of disciplines and more open themes would be good for all involved.
Also, I think JAW has got a bit confused as we're voting for August's POTM and it's still July. Maybe we should ask him to rename it as July POTM and we could add another topic in for August and keep DH for September. Whaddya reckon? _________________ Hamish |

Ahh ok, i didn't actually realise tbh but thought it was out of character. Yer i noticed that to, your idea sounds good. Just seemed a bit odd to have Downhill and Freeride right next to each other but oh well.
An Jedi i realise that but at the same time that could also mean more riding? _________________ www.watfordriders.co.uk |

Yeah I can see what jedi means, i had thought the same.

That is indeed what it should be and what it is!

I think you may have seen my response to that in the other thread.

No I am not confused. The reason it is a month ahead is because by the time voting has finished, the winner's photo will be photo of the month during august. D'ya get it now?
