It was fairly tight this month, with some very good entries. Unforunately there were not many votes, but overall woody0606 came out to be winner. Good shot!

And second place goes to jacob who submitted this corker:

Discuss!

I voted for woody's as I like some of the moodiness and I rode that very run around about that time and it brings back the memories of the day I gave up using SPDs and switched to flats Wink

I think a tighter crop would work with less sky, none of the annoying head at the right side, and a bit less of the track IMO. It's also a wee bit soft but it looks like there wouldn't have been much light to work with. The backlighting an B&W works well.

I'm not keen on jacob's at all. In fact, if I'm being honest... I really dislike it. I don't like the lighting, I hate the trees dominating the composition and there's nothing exciting about it other than the fact it happens to show Gee Atherton, which is probably the reason it got a couple of votes. The section of trail isn't interesting, it doesn't guide the eye and there's no feeling of movement, effort or concentration. I honestly think that if I'd taken it, then it would no longer be on my hard drive, never mind having been posted on the internet.

Alrite, calm down mate! Very Happy I didn't vote for it for the sake of Gee, i'm not quite that shallow in my choice for PotM. I generally liked the out of focus trees in the foreground and lighting etc. It's all an opinion at the end of the day as is the fact that you hate it. Personally i'd never say that about someone else's picture.

Simply saying that you hate something and not giving any reasons is rude. I dont think I was being rude. I just gave my opinion and the reasons for it. Granted, there were quite a lot of them. I'd rather say what I actually felt than "well, it just doesn't really work for me" or saying nothing. I wouldn't be offended when someone did the same to me. But if it was just a case of "your pic sucks" then it's certainly not helpful.

Surely honest opinions aren't a bad thing. If we only wanted positive feedback then we'd all just go on flickr for the "WOW cool shot" nonsense. Wink

Edit: In retrospect "hate" is probably a little strong. Original post edited slightly.
