Anyone have any experience of this lens?
Bloody heavy I know, but I may have an opportunity to buy one relatively unused at a very reasonable price.
What would it be like for shooting action shots?

| I don't remember much as far as focusing speed goes, but it is a good lens. |

I'm a Nikon user but don't know about that one in particular. Is it for digital or film use? 35mm on a DLSR wouldn't give much in the wide range.
Generally the Nikon 2.8 zooms are heavy beasts but very well built and very sharp. A good place to ask is the Nikon lens forum at dpreview.com - http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1030
I'd visit there. _________________ Hamish |

| It's one of Nikon's older offerings. I've quickly forgotten about the crop factor now that I'm shooting a 5D. Hamish is right about it about the zoom range on a digital - it will be a 50-105mm range. It is a sharp lens if memory serves. You can always see if there are some full-res samples available at http://www.pixel-peeper.com. |

Cheers guys. You are, of course, completely right about the wide range (or lack of it) as I am shooting digital (hamish - you do know me from another forum - scott macavennie).
Reviews I checked last night claimed it seems to be a very sharp lens though, backed up by the pixel peeper images (great site!).
I'm going to see how cheap I can get it - could be a useful lens to have. Its one of the ones you have to pull in and out to zoom which would take a little getting used to! |

Hi Travis. Good to see you here. Hope you'll be posting some stuff soon enough.
The trombone focussing is always interesting. I've only had a wee shot on one of those type and it does take a bit of practice but it's really quick when you get used to it. It's also great for doing zoom bursts. _________________ Hamish |

Cheers Hamish. Some of the photos posted on here make it a little daunting, I have to say!
Had the lens checked out today. It has a few faults apparently, but I think they can be sorted fairly easily. Looks like its been kept somewhere humid as it has mould inside. |

Grrr. You've turned off the image links in yer ZenF site. I was going to post a couple of your pics to prove that they're easily worthy (sunrise in the park 2 & the spider on the bell for starters). _________________ Hamish |

Cheers Hamish.
I haven't turned off links in the site. I think it defaults to that. Had a look and can't see an option to turn it on. Can you point me in the direction?
Anyway here are the two pics you mentioned:

Oh, JAW - both taken with a D40. |
