Hey, i'm quite into my filming as i'm filming for Stoked (www.StokedFilms.co.uk) with Trail_Builder. I thought, i may aswel get into photogrpahy at the same time, as it should benefit the filming aspects and seems pretty fun. I found my parents old camera that is a Fuji2800 digital. I browsed the web and it seemed to have got some good reviews, i've played with all the settings but i need to learn to use them properly... so heres some questions.
1) What does the EV do, for example i can set it as EV 0 or Ev +0.6 etc. I'm guessing it changes the light exposure?
2) I can't find an apparature setting, do only certain cameras have apparature settings?
3) I also have a a Fuji f410, is that any better?
4.) Theres lots of lighting modes, i have no idea which one does what, theres no flash, flash, an eye symbol or auto.
5.)What does a macro do?
6.) Whats does the ISO setting do?
7.) How do you change the speed of the flash, as timing is impossible, i have to wait a good 2 seconds to capture the shot, by which time i've missed the rider.
Sorry for all the nooby questions

ill do my best to answer then but im sure some of the more experinced shooter can help more
1) What does the EV do, for example i can set it as EV 0 or Ev +0.6 etc. I'm guessing it changes the light exposure? its exposure compensation. the cameras metering system can get confused at some lights, like if you're going for a siloette, or snow. +1 is one 'stop' (search google for info on that), more exposure, so make it allow more light in, and vice versa.
2) I can't find an apparature setting, do only certain cameras have apparature settings? yes, i think you'res might be too old, if you have the model try the web for a manual maybe?
3) I also have a a Fuji f410, is that any better? lol you answered my question, search google for info on it.
4.) Theres lots of lighting modes, i have no idea which one does what, theres no flash, flash, an eye symbol or auto. no flash is no flash, flash is flash, eye symbol is red eye reductiuon mode. this fires the flash a few times before exposure (and main flash) to stop red eye happening. auto is when the camera makes all the dicisions.
5.)What does a macro do? macro will probs be when is opens up the aperature (wide aperature), creating a shorter DOF (depth of field), so blurring hte background. it might do other stuff but i not sure what else...
6.) Whats does the ISO setting do? search web for good explanation, but basically, the higher the number, the faster the shutter speed is to keep the exposure the same. so that you can 'freeze' the action. however, the higher the number, the more grain/noise (i dunno the technical dif) that appears, so its a tradeoff.
7.) How do you change the speed of the flash, as timing is impossible, i have to wait a good 2 seconds to capture the shot, by which time i've missed the rider. do you mean, you press shutter and the flash and consequently the shutter is delayed? if so, you need to hold the shutter down halfway first (this also prefocuses), and then as the rider is where ya want, press is the full way down.
hope this helps
