| Flash was used on them all, as for exposing I just looked at a pic on the screen and adjusted, roughly the same as the meter was saying oddly enough, I did want a slightly dark background though. |

Grain is for film (it's literally talking about the grains of silver halides) and noise is for digital. So a 1600iso film picture will have lots of grain and a 1600iso digi pic will have lots of noise. |

Nice work, Roo. I like the first and last although the second doesn't do anything for me.

Bollocks. ISO 1600 film has lots of grain. ISO 1600 digital does NOT have LOTS of noise if you handle it correctly. Yes there is more noise than ISO 100 or even 800 but it's not so bad that you can't use it.
I don't know why people are so afraid to increase the ISO. If you underexpose and use levels to correct it then you make it really bad and you can make it worse if you oversharpen or use regular USM rather than just bosting contrast. It also depends on what RAW converter you use - ACR makes things a lot noisier to start with compared to capture NX. If you pixel peep and are paranoid about noise then you might think it's a bad thing but if you get prints made then you'll see that it looks much worse on screen than in print.
I've posted plenty of high ISO biking pics in the last couple of months and I've never heard the criticism of them being too noisy. _________________ Hamish |

You're reading too much into my reply I know 1600 is perfectly usable, I just couldn't say 1600 has noise, becuase iso200 pics have it too.
I'll rephrase, digital pictures have noise and film pictures have grain. |

I don't mind the caption comp thing on that forum, but I would mind if it was printed out or actually used somewhere. |

Fair enough. I can't argue with that. _________________ Hamish |

How would we go about making you happy about us using the image for small poster/flyer with winning caption and forum link added to be given away at rides?
