A quick question

OK,

so say i have a camera that has a hotshoe on the top

and i have a flash that fits into that hotshoe

is it possible for me to buy something that fits onto the hotshoe of the camera and then the other bit of the flash to make it a remote flash.

And if it is can you recomend one and if its not, what do i have to do to have a remote flash, is it more complicated than that?
